SOCIAL SECURITY UPDATES 2025

About Social Security: What's New?

1. 2.5 % increase for the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA). This is an increase in Social Security benefits (and other government benefits) to keep pace with inflation.   IMPACT: An average of $30–$50 increase per month.

2. Repeal of Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP). This is a rule that reduced Social Security benefits for people who worked in jobs where they didn’t pay into Social Security, like certain government jobs and other types of employment: teachers, police officers, and firefighters. IMPACT:   The WEP reduction makes your Social Security benefits lower than expected, even if you worked for many years and paid into Social Security in some of those jobs. The repeal of WEP in 2025 will remove this reduction for people affected by it.  The repeal could also lead to a retroactive payout averaging $6,710 and an increase in monthly benefits of up to $1,190 for those affected. For many, this could be a crucial financial boost during retirement.
3. Changes in Identification Verification.  IMPACT: This change means that millions of people who rely on Social Security will need to adjust to new ways of managing their accounts either through an online portal or in person, with some facing barriers due to lack of internet access or difficulties accessing local offices.  This change begins at the end of March 2025.

4.  Earnings Test and Benefit Withholding.  Workers who plan to continue working AFTER starting Social Security will experience a reduction in their benefits if they exceed $62,160 in the year that they reach full retirement age or $23,400 if they are under full retirement age . Once you reach full retirement age there is no earnings limit. Also, if the agency claims you were OVERPAID Social Security benefits, it can take your entire benefit payment each month until the debt is repaid.

5. Full retirement age is now  66 years and 10 months.  IMPACT: While this doesn’t drastically change things for most workers, it does delay when full benefits are available.

NOTE: Social Security Benefits CANNOT be garnished by debt collectors, nor are debt collectors allowed to take money out of their bank accounts. They may sue for the debt but they cannot collect. Other monies from other sources are also protected as long as the other money in the account is less than twice the amount of the benefits given by Social Security. This income is PROTECTED. SOCIAL SECURITY SCAM

Social Security will NEVER call you to ask you to provide any personal information or money by email or text to get a benefit increase. Social Security does NOT change how they do business during holidays, either.  Your home safety and security is important.

BUSINESSES RETHINKING OLDER...

Shifting demographics give older workers strong work ethic and experience.

Businesses facing high worker turnover consistently said they now prefer to hire older workers who have families to support or “a reason they have to come to work” than younger workers who come and go more frequently. (columbia.edu)

OLDER ADULT DISCRIMINATION

AGE DISCRIMINATION IS ILLEGAL!  The Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) forbids age discrimination against people who are age 40 or older. (News Nation)

OLDER ADULTS IN THE WORKPLACE

According to Chat GPT, Older workers bring a wealth of experience, knowledge, and skills to the workplace, making them valuable assets to any organization. Here are some ways that older workers can be beneficial to their employers:

  1. Experience and expertise: Older workers often have many years of experience in their field, which can be a valuable resource for an organization. They can bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the table and can be especially valuable in mentoring and training younger employees.
  2. Work ethic: older workers are often known for their strong work ethic and dedication to their jobs. They are reliable, responsible, and often take pride in their work.
  3. Stability: Older workers are often more stable and less likely to change jobs frequently, which can provide stability and consistency for an organization.
  4. Flexibility: Many older workers are able to adapt to new situations and technologies, and are open to learning new skills.
  5. Wisdom and perspective: With age comes wisdom and a unique perspective on life, which can be a valuable asset in the workplace. Older workers can bring a different perspective to problem-solving and decision-making, and can help to create a more diverse and inclusive workplace.

Overall, older workers can make valuable contributions to the workplace, and it's important for employers to recognize and appreciate their contributions.

Elderly Wisdom

Yes, we still need our elderly...STOP the nonsense!

Elderly adults are the foundation of our families and should NOT be easily discarded. They are HUMAN BEINGS. In many countries, families who have grandmothers and grandfathers present, seem to be much more cohesive and progressive because of the wisdom and insight that grandparents share. LISTEN to our elderly!
